Frankie Reese: "Tonight is the start of ushering in a new era. A new beginning. A new wave. The road to crowning the first ever NWP Champion starts here. We've gathered 24 of the best athletes in and outside of this company to fight for the one thing that everyone wants. Gold. Because with gold comes wealth. And with wealth comes power. Welcome to the beginning. Welcome to Night 1 of the New Wave Classic."
2017 NWC Block A First Round Match: Rhaegos vs Quemaduro II
Rhaegos def. Quemaduro II via Calamity Buster (Running Liger Bomb) at 15:08
*The opener for the inaugural New Wave Classic saw the monster of RISE, Rhaegos, face off against the second generation Quemaduro in a true blue "David vs Goliath" matchup. Que II went on the attack with multiple strikes to try and knock down Rhaegos like the giant beanstalk that he is, but Rhaegos took the fight outside and began dismantling the youngster bit-by-bit. Once back in the ring, Que II tried to put up a bit of a fight but was cut off and caught with a Calamity Buster for the 3 count! After this showing, Rhaegos may be a force to be reckoned with in this tournament.*
2017 NWC Block A First Round Match: Sabal Rashid vs SHOTA
Sabal Rashid def. SHOTA via Jumping Powerbomb at 14:25
*ODYSSEY Pro Wrestling's Indian star Sabal Rashid enters the tournament to face off against former GORE Japan star, Shota Aoki, now known simply as "SHOTA". SHOTA entered the ring in a cloud of his own cigarette smoke and kicked things off by throwing the lit cigarette in the face of Sabal Rashid, while referee Takamatsu tried to frantically put it out. The match itself showcased both of the young men's talents in the ring. SHOTA got the better of their exchange early on, but was cut off by Rashid and caught with a Powerbomb for the win.
After the match, SHOTA went after everybody in sight. No one was safe. He tried attacking the referee, the fans, even security before they physically removed him from ringside.*
2017 NWC Block B First Round Match: Koji Keo'ke vs Black Wolf
Black Wolf def. Koji Keo'ke via Navajo Bomb (Soulful Powerbomb) at 19:34
*The Hawaiian Sensation and The Navajo Nightmare in a match for the ages. In what was an absolute brawl from bell to bell, Koji and Black Wolf threw everything that they possibly had at each other in this match. Black Wolf's vast array of chops were eventually met with a Lei-Out (Spinning Backfist) from Koji for a near fall. Following it up with a Kilauea Buster (Mammoth Buster), the end seemed imminent. However, the lights went out during the pin and when they returned, Koji was laid out (pun intended) in the center of the ring. Black Wolf took advantage with a Navajo Bomb to pick up the victory and advance to the Second Round.
Black Wolf could be the dark horse in this tournament. And what the hell happened to Koji?*
2017 NWC Block B First Round Match: Disrespect Dragon vs Azteca Dragon Jr.
Azteca Dragon Jr. def. The Disrespect Dragon via Dragon Destroyer (Canadian Destroyer) at 14:11
*Azteca Dragon Jr. returns to the ring here in the New Wave Classic to face off against a virtual unknown in The Disrespect Dragon. In a complete contrast of styles, ADJ focused more on fast strikes and high flying moves while Disrespect Dragon focused more on power moves to try and ground the second generation star. In the end, ADJ picked up the win after a devastating Dragon Destroyer to advance to the next round of his block!
After the match, SHOTA ran down to the ring alongside a blonde haired man that seems to be former GORE Japan wrestler, Toru Kuroda. SHOTA and Toru join Disrespect Dragon in the assault on Azteca Dragon Jr. before UNMASKING him in front of the world! ADJ's brother, El Hijo de Azteca Dragon rushes down to the ring, steel chair in hand, and chases off the attackers. What is the business of those 3 men together? Why target Azteca Dragon Jr.? We're going to try and get some answers.*
2017 NWC Block C First Round Match: Tizona vs Yoshirozuna
Yoshirozuna def. Tizona via Sumoshiro Slammu (H Edge) at 12:25
*In what was another "Man vs Beast" type of match, the masked swordsman Tizona of RISE went face to, well, stomach, with Yoshirozuna. Yoshirozuna is a sumo champion and a force to be reckoned with in the ring. Tizona had quite a challenge on his hands but what started off as a potentially great underdog story quickly turned into a nightmare for Tizona as he was nearly slaughtered for about 9 minutes straight before Yoshirozuna finally put the rookie out of his misery with his deadly Sumoshiro Slammu finisher. What a powerful display from Yoshirozuna in this match. Many already believe that he is the one to watch in this tournament.*
2017 NWC Block C First Round Match: Dimension Dragon II vs Saint AKUMA
Saint AKUMA def. Dimension Dragon II via Praying Powerbomb at 10:54
*In the final First Round match of the night, GODSEND's Saint AKUMA squares off against Craze's Dimension Dragon II. In what was a match that consisted of a whole lot of rule breaking, Saint AKUMA ended things fairly early on after a Praying Powerbomb. After the match, AKUMA got on the mic and stated that when the tournament is over, the NWP Championship will be in the hands of GODSEND. One way or another. Whether you like it or not.*
6 Man Tag Team Match: The Palace of Lions (Menelaus/Kassius/Tenshi) vs The Crypt
The Crypt def. The Palace of Lions via Wicked Hunger (FFF) from Talon to Menelaus at 21:47
*As always, the ever popular Palace of Lions stable joins forces in the main event tonight to face off against a debuting trio of men known as "the Crypt". We didn't know much about these men before the match began, only that they seem to be followers of vampirism, and their names. Talon, the leader, and his followers, Silas and Decker. Well the new trio certainly proved themselves a challenge for the more experienced team as they threw it all out there after The POL. All hell broke loose as chaos ensued in and around the ring. As it ultimately pitted leader against leader, Menelaus looked to end things with his Fall of Troy (Musou) finisher, but was reversed, where Talon ended things with his own finisher, the FFF, which we now know he refers to as "Wicked Hunger". An impressive debut for Talon and The Crypt. We're looking forward to seeing just what's next in store for this new team.*
